BFF for product managers

As a new Forrester analyst, starting a blog is great way to think aloud about my research, which focuses on product management in the technology industry (TI). That’s a careful choice of words, since I’ll be writing both for product managers and about product management as a key business process.

This blog will give you another window into our role-based research here at Forrester. As a research organization, we want to make sure that we’re focused on the right questions, and make it easy for you to give feedback on our work. In other words, you’re a colleague, whether or not you’re a customer (yet).

To put it another way, my mission is to be BFF4PM—best friend forever for product management. That’s how I’ll measure success; please tell me how I’m doing.

Tom, thanks for starting this blog and joining the PM conversation online. I think you'll find a vibrant and organizing group. It's refreshing to see a recognizable analyst group like Forrester paying attention to Product Management as a discipline. PM is one of those critical areas that too often flies under the radar, yet there are thousands of Product Managers out there making huge impacts (or not) on their businesses.

I'm working for a large DAM company that has a deep need for rigorously developed and tracked requirements. Any thoughts on tools, especially more recent takes where the cure would actually be better than the disease? Something that takes into account the fact that reqs are hierachical? That people have questions and issues and that those can lead to changes, but not always? Something that's acutally collaborative? Oh please?
