Video: MySpace’s Jay Stevens shares the value of Community

Jay Stevens, an executive for MySpace EMEA, was one of the keynotes at Forrester's recent Consumer Forum conference.  He shared with me the value of community, (quoting Danah Boyd) his definition of community (find out what "peeping" is all about) and the opportunities afforded to marketers who use social networks to connect with customers.  He gives a few quick steps to get started, which is really a must-know for anyone getting ready, what's the recommendation?  Get a strategy.

I also was live blogging his presentation, read more from his presentation Marketing in a Networked Culture.

This is the first time I've posted video for the Forrester Marketing blog, give me your opinion would you like to see more of these type of videos?  All feedback welcome!

Fantastic! I love the video touch. I have been addressing community issues myself for a few weeks now.

Definitely more video, and in person interviews with speakers at Forrester events. I thought this one was a great example - brief, too the point, and giving a bit of the feeling of the event.

Thanks for this. The video certainly makes it more engaging. My suspicion is that large marketing departments need to explore more how they could derive benefit internally from social networking themselves before they jump aboard the bandwagon. Of course the "digital natives" get it already, but the digital immigrants may well not - and they are in the leadership positions in many marketing teams.

Great feedback, sounds like a yes. I'll be posting a video with the GM of CyWorld Europe. CyWorld is a social network with a lot of traction in Asia, Europe, and a bit in US.Stay tuned...more to come.

I've had to talk to many executives who are digital immigrants. A few times, I've talked about my kid sister and how she communicates, they often bring up their kids, and we've got a common platform of understanding.

There is a new networking group on Linkedin that some might be interested in. It is only for executives within marketing. It's called the CMO Networking Group. There is no content or cost, but simply a networking opportunity for marketing folks. Here is a link if you would like to apply:http://www.linkedin.com/e/gis/51822/29B7AB247D2F
