The Top Technology Trends For The Next Three Years

We just released our 2011 update to last year’s EA top trends report, The Top 15 Technology Trends EA Should Watch: 2011 To 2013. In 2011, we have expanded our coverage by releasing two documents of 10 trends each:

In addition to adding more trends, we made some other improvements as well, including: 1) updating the quadrants of the watchlist and providing a description of each; 2) providing details on how we scored the technologies in our watchlist; and 3) identifying four overarching themes that are influencing all the trends: empowerment, the app Internet, everything-as-a-service, and big data. More on these later!

For this first blog post on trends, I’m going to post the business technology trends.

Most HR is focused on eleyompes as assets. Oracle even calls one of its HR packages Human Capital Management. So, for me at least and as someone installing a major HR system, I do not see HR as the custodians of the human touch.On the positive side competency frameworks at least try to ensure that we can compare apples with apples when looking to see what kind of people are needed to fulfil certain roles. However, how many people can be truly defined by a set of words that are often more lowest common factor than highest common multiplier?So, when thinking about large scale changes to an organisation- and most large systems-driven change counts in this area then I worry as much about organisation and people as I do about technology, information and process, often-times even more.Why?Because people are not automatons and are capable of sentience and rational (and irrational) behaviour, Accepting this changes the way in which we shape and manage the user experience for the system and the change and therefore people are at the centre of the EA process for me.
